3D ModelME is an iOS app from HallyWeather LLC that converts iPhone portrait photos containing depth data into 3D models (STL files) suitable for 3D printing. You can view and interact with models in the app and, with the Pro upgrade, export them for printing or use in other 3D software.

Supported devices include iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone 11, and iPhone 12. The iPhone X and newer front cameras use time-of-flight depth (generally higher fidelity), while the Plus models use disparity depth from the rear dual camera.

Use the iPhone Camera in Portrait mode (front or rear as supported) when photographing a subject. Portrait mode attempts to capture and store depth information with the image. Ensure your device supports depth capture and that the photo saved includes depth metadata.

Not all photos include depth metadata. Depth data is only recorded when using cameras and modes that support it (e.g., Portrait mode on supported iPhones). Also ensure the full-size image with embedded depth was saved or emailed (not resized) when imported.

3D ModelME converts images into STL files (a standard format for 3D printing). Exporting models (for example via email) is available in the 3D ModelMEPro upgrade within the app.

Key settings include Depth Limit (maximum depth converted — increase if the model looks flat) and Reduce Size (reduces geometry to lower file size). Adjust Depth Limit to set a virtual backdrop and enable Reduce Size to produce smaller models for constrained workflows.

Print models vertically (standing on the build plate) rather than flat with the textured face up. Laying the model flat often causes print failures. Also consider orientation and supports as you would for any small detailed print.

Try taking the photo from further away so the subject is smaller in the frame, enable the Reduce Size setting, and adjust the Depth Limit (Image Depth) to filter out background geometry. These steps reduce model complexity without drastically lowering useful detail.

Yes. If a friend with a depth-capable iPhone emails you the full-size image (do not downscale when sending), you can import that image into 3D ModelME and convert it to a 3D model. Make sure the emailed image retains the depth metadata.
